LOS ANGELES DERBY DOLLS FRESH MEAT SHOWCASE THEIR SKILLS

SUNDAY, JANUARY 22nd

Los Angeles2012’s season will open with an explosive game on January 21st, when the Los Angeles Derby Dolls’ all-star team the L.A. Ri-Ettes come face to face with San Diego Derby Dolls’ Wildfires.  The Wildfires are the only team in the country to be ranked on both flat and banked track and will be bringing their biggest and best players in hopes of taking down LA’s army of top class skaters.  Taking the fastest and hardest players from home teams - Tough Cookies, Sirens, Varsity Brawlers and Fight Crew - the L.A. Ri-Ettes will stand united and steady against their opponents making sure that everyone knows that the best of the best belong to the L.A. Derby Dolls. In November 2011, the L.A. Ri-Ettes won the $10,000 top prize at the first professional banked track tournament of modern roller derby, the Chicago Invitational, after beating Rocky Mountain Rollergirls.

While Saturday’s bout will be for ages 21 and older, Sunday will be an All Ages Baby Doll Brawl.  The L.A. Derby Dolls fresh meat and current sub-pool skaters will go head-to-head in a rematch of November 2011’s game of the two teams, Bikini Kill and The Misfits. For those fans 21 and older, Sunday’s event will also have a special beer garden.  As like past Baby Doll Brawls, the event half time entertainment will be provided on the track by The L.A. Junior Derby Dolls. Come join us at The Doll Factory, located in historic Filipinotown, for a full weekend of all action derby fun!

L.A. Derby Dolls events offer a full range of entertainment off the track, with the Vendor Village featuring art, jewelry and clothes, food from Garage Pizza and a variety of food trucks, and natural energy beverages provided by Ex-Drinks. Tecate beer will be served by Alex’s Bar and The Derby Dolls proudly introduce ready-to-drink Jack Daniel’s bottles as a new sponsor for the 2011 season. Stila cosmetics will be at the games treating our fans to some pampering, as well as additional 2011 season sponsorship from S-One Helmet Company and N101 Nutrition & Health. There will be live musical entertainment at half time on Saturday 12th and raffle tickets will be sold during the game for a wide selection of prizes.

NBCLosAngeles.com - Broomball Brawl

The Derby Dolls really can do no wrong. Give 'em a banked track and they'll spin around it at top speed, blazing past foes with cheek and style. Give 'em a broom and some ice and they'll slide toward the goal without a care to be seen.

And give 'em an important cause to raise money for and they are out in force and ready to rumble.

They broomballed against the Los Angeles Fire Department for a couple of years at Downtown on Ice, and now the Dolls are set to take on the LA Flag Footballers, "LA's gay-oriented flag football team." (Let's also pause to give props to LA Flag Football, which notably raises funds for various causes, too.)

So when LA Flag Football and the Derby Dolls unite to do good, as they're doing on Tuesday, Jan. 10? It's like a meeting of the community-minded, athletic-cool titans. It'll be quite the fierce, fun-filled broomball game, and it'll be free to spectators, too. If you're near downtown on Jan. 10, get to Pershing Square; the match is at 7 p.m.
