September Move Update

Hello Derby Dolls Fans,

Since our last move update in July, we have been working on securing a new location in Los Angeles (at the 5 fwy and Colorado Blvd across from Griffith Park). Unfortunately, we discovered recently that Metro has plans to build an overpass on the site, and in addition, the parking restrictions have been virtually impossible to lift. Due to these factors, that space is no longer a viable option. So, our search continues. If you are aware of any available commercial, non-retail, warehouse space 30,000 - 40,000 sqft or greater with parking and a long-term lease, please let us know at questions@derbydolls.com.

For now, we will continue bouting at our current location at 1910 West Temple Street as the building plans there have been stalled - for now. Please visit our website to sign up for our mailing list on to be notified of future move updates, as well as to pick up some tickets to see Sirens vs Varsity Brawlers this Saturday!

Thank you for your patience and support!

September League Member Of The Month

The L.A. Derby Dolls would like to congratulate Fight Crew team captain, Belle Scorcho # 85, for being named League Member of the Month for September, 2014! Belle Scorcho wears many hats within the L.A. Derby Dolls—she was a member of the 2013 L.A. Ri-ettes All Star Team, co-head of the partnerships committee assisting with obtaining promotion partners like Golden Road Brewing, Stila Cosmetics, and Sailor Jerry, and she is an advisor to fresh meat skaters as a Fresh Meat Mama taking new skaters under her wing and providing advice on skill and game play. At this rate, she is practically a superhero, because she is also part of the taskforce charged with the search for finding us a new home. In her life outside of roller derby (yes, she even made time for that), Belle is a project architect. She has imparted vast amounts of wisdom and talent to help us in the on-going search the right facility to meet our needs. To learn more about Belle Scorcho, check out her interview below:

LADD: How did you find derby? Or did it find you?

BS: I found derby after a night of casual skating at Moonlight Rollerway.  I was with friends just skating around in circles and off hand mentioned "this is fun, but I just want to skate really fast."  My friend suggested I give derby a shot with the added bonus of getting to skate fast AND also to hit people.  After a couple minutes of google searching, I was signed up for Derby Por Vida.  And after one class of DPV, I decided that I was going to be a Derby Doll, no matter what.

LADD: Derby or non derby related, who is your hero and why?

BS: Tina Fey as a stand in for all ladies who take charge with big opinions and aren't afraid to be heard.  I was brought up to stand up for myself and my opinions, and I appreciate a woman who successfully does that within a male dominated profession… plus, she is hilarious.

LADD: What's was your personal favorite derby moment?

BS: My first time actually skating a jam after weeks of learning how to fall in DPV and hoping that I wouldn't.  I was jamming against Whip N’ Ash (also her first jam ever) and we both stumbled our way through the pack.  I don't remember if any points were scored, but it was thrilling all the same.

LADD: A genie gives you 3 wishes, what do you wish for?

BS: A combination washer/dryer, unlimited frequent flier miles to use, and some rain.

LADD: What is your goal for the 2014 season?

BS: My goal is to make Fight Crew the strongest we can be!

Come check out Belle Scorcho and Fight Crew as they take on the Varsity Brawlers on Saturday, Sept. 6 at the Doll Factory!
