ALL-STAR TEAMS BATTLE – LOS ANGELES VS NEW YORK CITY
L.A. RI-ETTES FACE OFF AGAINST GOTHAM GIRLS ROLLER DERBY FROM NEW YORK SATURDAY, MARCH 3rd, 2012
Los Angeles – Los Angeles Derby Dolls all-star Ri-Ettes, and their East Coast rivals Gotham Girls Roller Derby from New York City will compete together for the first time in over a year on March 3rd in what promises to be a brutal encounter on the banked track. L.A. Ri-Ettes unite the fastest and hardest players from LADD’s home teams - Tough Cookies, Sirens, Varsity Brawlers and Fight Crew – while Gotham Girls Roller Derby are one of the best flat track leagues in the country. Founded in 2003, the NY league will bring their best players and a thirst for vengeance back to the banked track. The last time both teams came face to face was February 2011 when The Ri-Ettes won 132 to 106. Already this year, the Ri-Ettes have defeated San Diego’s Wildfires but then lost a hard-fought game to Colorado Springs’ Team Bionic. Highly esteemed flat-track derby skaters, OMG WTF and Bonnie Thunders played with Team Bionic and will be back to L.A. as part of Gotham Girls Roller Derby.
The Doll Factory, home of the L.A. Derby Dolls, is located in historic Filipinotown just outside of Downtown LA. The Doll Factory was voted Best Roller Derby Venue for 2011 in a poll conducted by the authoritative site, Derby Network News. The derby site said, “The unique Factory marries the early chaotic punk vibe of modern derby to professional-level production values perhaps more effectively than any venue in the sport.” The L.A. Derby Dolls are very happy to announce that our venue now is open to ALL AGES! Underage fans will finally be able to attend all Saturday evening league games, but alcohol sales remain for fans ages 21+ only with proper ID. All Saturday evening league games are rated “PG-13”, so parental guidance is suggested. Small personal cameras (pocket-size, point and shoot only) will also be allowed into the Doll Factory, so come and take pictures of your favorite skaters or with them after the bout! Reminder: No personal photographers are allowed to shoot from the pink track-side walkways at any time. All professional cameras will remain for press outlets only. Any large cameras that require a camera bag or have interchangeable lenses are strictly prohibited for personal use and will be turned away.
L.A. Derby Dolls events offer a full range of entertainment off the track, with the Vendor Village featuring art, jewelry and clothes, food from Garage Pizza and a variety of food trucks, and various beverage choices – both alcoholic and non. The L.A. Derby Dolls are proud to be sponsored by Jack Daniel’s. Jack Daniel’s ready-to-drink bottles, PBR beer and various wines will be served by Alex’s Bar. L.A. Derby Dolls are also proud that Stila cosmetics have returned as a 2012 season partner and will be at all games treating our fans to complimentary beauty products, as well as our protection partner, S-One Helmet Company. There will be live musical entertainment at halftime on Saturday the 11th and raffle tickets will be sold during the game for a wide selection of prizes.

About the L.A. Derby Dolls:
Founded in 2003, the L.A. Derby Dolls (www.derbydolls.com/la) are Southern California’s premiere women’s banked-track, quad-skating roller derby league. Within the league, four fierce teams battle for dominance: Fight Crew, Sirens, Tough Cookies and Varsity Brawlers. The L.A. Ri-Ettes are L.A. Derby Dolls’ all-star team that competes on a national level against the best of the best in the country. While their uniforms may be stylish and their names playful, do not be fooled by appearances – the L.A. Derby Dolls are athletes who skate a sport that is unscripted and real. Honored as a Treasure of Los Angeles by the Central City Association, the L.A. Derby Dolls embody the do-it-yourself, “for the skaters, by the skaters” ethos of modern women’s roller derby.
The L.A. Derby Dolls are one of only thirteen leagues in the U.S. playing roller derby on a banked track, yet more banked track leagues join the intense sport every year. Like most modern female roller derby leagues, the Derby Dolls are volunteer-run and give back to the community that has embraced them. The league also operates the Junior Derby Dolls for girls ages 7-17.
