Learn how to talk like an L.A. Derby Doll...
BANKED TRACK – An oval-shaped track that is angled.
BLOCKER – A player who tries to block the jammer from passing through.
CALLING OFF THE JAM – When a jammer puts her hands on her hips, thereby ending the play. A jammer can only do this if she has passed through the pack once.
DOLL FACTORY – The L.A. Derby Dolls' banked track lair.
INFIELD – The area on the inside of the banked track.
JAM – A period of 60 seconds during which the jammer can score points.
JAMMER – A player who scores points by passing players on the opposite team, often identified by a helmet cover (panty) with a star.
LEAD JAMMER – The jammer that is in the lead; she can strategically end aka "call off the jam" at any moment.
OUTFIELD – The area outside of the track’s railing.
PACK – When the skaters group together. The blockers must be no farther than 20 feet away from the pack during a jam.
PANTY - A type of fabric helmet cover to help distinguish the jammer (star) or pivot (stripe) from the blockers.
PENALTY BENCH - Bench/chairs where players who have recieved a major penalty sit. Each team has their own designated penalty bench which is located in the middle of the infield (marked by pink square at the Doll Factory).
PIVOT - A blocker who may become the jammer later in a jam (the jammer must pass the "star" panty to the pivot).
POWERSLIDE – A type of stop in which the skater quickly turns one foot 180 degrees in the opposite direction and flicks out the other foot.
SNOWPLOW - A type of stop in which the skater spreads her legs out and points her knees inwards.
T-STOP – A type of stop in which the skater positions her feet in the shape of the letter “T”.
TENNILLE - The co-captain of a team, because every Captain needs a Tennille.
TWO-FINGER SALUTE – The official salute of the L.A. Derby Dolls made by turning the palm of your hand in towards your chest and extending only your index and middle finger.
